19 Aug Our Guide to Sparkling Wedding Wines – What’s The Difference Between Champagne, Crémant, Cava and Prosecco?
When it comes to celebrating love, nothing says “cheers” quite like a glass of sparkling wine. But with so many types to choose from, how do you know which is right for your wedding day? Here’s our quick guide to some of the more well-known styles of sparkling wine on the market:
Champagne: The Classic Choice
Champagne is the epitome of elegance and celebration. However, not all bubbly can be called Champagne. True Champagne hails only from the region of Champagne in France, where winemakers use the méthode champenoise, or traditional method, to craft this iconic wine.
The magic of Champagne lies in its second fermentation, which takes place inside the bottle. After the initial fermentation, the wine is bottled, and a mixture of yeast and sugar is added to kickstart a second fermentation. This process creates the delicate bubbles and the signature toasty brioche flavours that make Champagne so beloved.
We have an excellent Champagne that ticks all the boxes and won’t break the bank.
Crémant: A Chic Alternative
For those who love the taste of Champagne but are looking for a more budget-friendly option, Crémant is a fabulous choice. Made using the same traditional method as Champagne, Crémant comes from regions outside of Champagne, offering similar flavours at a more accessible price point.
Crémant wines, like Crémant de Bourgogne, often use the same grape varieties as Champagne, resulting in a sparkling wine with notes of nuttiness, toast, fine bubbles, and a creamy texture.

Cava: Sunshine in a glass
Like Champagne and Crémant, Cava is made using the traditional method, with the second fermentation taking place in the bottle. The key difference lies in the grapes and the sunny Spanish climate, which lend Cava its distinctive character.
Prosecco: Cost-effective crowd-pleaser
For those who prefer a lighter, fruitier sparkle, Prosecco from Italy is an excellent choice. Unlike the other sparkling wines we’ve discussed, Prosecco is made using the charmat, or tank method. This process involves a second fermentation in large tanks rather than in individual bottles. The result is a wine with simpler flavours, softer bubbles, and a refreshing, fruity profile.
While Prosecco may not offer the same creamy, toasty notes as Champagne or Crémant, its crowd-pleasing style and lower price point make it a popular choice for celebrations.
We’ve sourced a brilliant Prosecco for you at just £10 a bottle.
No matter which type of sparkling wine you choose, each offers a unique way to toast to love, joy, and the many beautiful moments that come with sharing life together.
