Pinot Noir wine grapes

What is Pinot Noir?

Possibly the greatest grape of all time? Pinot Noir is a bit of a diva in the vineyard, notoriously tricky to grow in large quantities, but the results are worth every ounce of effort. A medium-bodied red that hails from the rolling hills of France, it’s soft, smooth, approachable and more often than not, utterly irresistible.

Where does it come from?
Pinot Noir’s spiritual home is the Burgundy region in eastern France, where it shares the spotlight with Chardonnay. Some of the world’s most prestigious and expensive bottles come from this little corner of the world. But it’s not just France; warmer spots such as the USA also produce stunning Pinot Noirs, with a riper, fruitier profile. And let’s not forget Chile and New Zealand—both have become Pinot Noir powerhouses in the southern hemisphere.

What does it taste like?
In two words, we’d say flipping delish, but “silky” is probably more accurate with fine tannins and effortless elegance. Think of vibrant red fruits like cherries and strawberries with a subtle floral lift. Occasionally, a hint of earthy savouriness sneaks in too. Thanks to its juicy acidity and modest alcohol content, Pinot Noir ages beautifully. It’s a stylish classic that’s always in vogue.

Easy-drinking at any time of the day, Pinot Noir is the perfect wine for your wedding table, and our French Villa Noria Pinot Noir will charm every guest!
